OK, so you can read this week's humor essay by clicking on ESSAYS or by clicking on the Tumblr widget.
But or those of you new to sarcasm, hyperbole and irony, please do me a favor and read between the lines. This is not a Bush-bashing piece. The man lead the country for eight years and I can't even make Cruise Director. He's accomplished a lot in his life and I have no idea what it's like to walk a mile in his shoes or get a shoe thrown at me by an Iraqi reporter, for that matter.
I am also glad he is recovering from surgery and that he has been following in the footsteps of Carter, Clinton and his father in becoming a very effective philanthropist.
Still, his foreign policy decisions did a lot of damage and caused more pain and suffering than he has had to experience while recuperating from surgery. So I think the former leader of the free world can handle some stupid jokes from me. Besides, I truly feel that my past jokes alluding to 43's policies have merit and that the irreverence displayed is simply a time-honored style practiced by other humorists.
In other words, I think it's OK to exaggerate my point of view in a humor column yet have also included passages that hint at a deeper respect and understanding of the man than I care to display in the piece because it's a humor blog entry and not a Time cover story trying to capture all the facets of this very influential and extremely complicated American success story.
OK, conservative cruisers? Can I go to bed now without worrying about you cancelling your next cruise, please?
